Our Approach

We create homes where children can thrive and where education is central to our approach. We invest in great staff who are able to build authentic relationships in thoughtfully designed physical spaces. Our entire approach is informed by social pedagogy – a relationship-based way of working with children.

The Situation

There are 8,000 children in residential care

1/3 of children in care have three or more placements each year.

11,000 children leave care and move into independence aged 16, 17 or 18.

In 2015, 4% of children who live in children’s homes gained 5 or more good GCSEs, compared to 16% of all children in care and 58% of their peers.

Our Principles

Looked after children need stable placements, somewhere they can feel safe and not worry about moving on without proper preparation.

Education with high aspirations, capable of responding to a child’s individual needs, should be a priority for everyone in residential care.

Social pedagogy provides an empowering, relationship-centred approach to supporting children who live in residential care. Learn more.

We need a new generation of our best people to work with our most vulnerable children.
